The Duffer brothers, creators of Stranger Things, have made it known when fans can expect to see the fifth season, revealing that they are focusing on quality rather than speed.
Matt and Ross Duffer let us know when fans can expect the fifth season of Stranger Things to arrive on Netflix. From a relatively humble start in 2016, Stranger Things has become one of the biggest shows on the planettelling the story of a group of young men from Hawkins, Indiana, who battle evil monsters from another dimension known as the Upside Down.
Season 4, which just passed 1.5 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix, is the biggest ever and introduces a new villain in the form of Vecna by Jamie Campbell Bower.
After the first 7 episodes of Stranger Things season 4 were released in late May, the final two episodes arrived on Netflix last week, closing the season with a sort of cliffhanger. The Duffer brothers have already confirmed that the upcoming fifth season, for which a writers’ room will be convened in Augustwill be the last of the show.
Stranger Things 5 is expected to bring back all of the main cast members, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbor, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery.
In a new interview released the Duffer brothers reveal that they have not yet defined a precise timing regarding the release date of the fifth season. They explain that, before officially announcing a date, it’s about making sure you have enough time for all aspects of production, however they have given a time frame in which it will arrive.
The Duffer brothers make it clear that, despite the desire to give fans the fifth season as soon as possible, the shorter the time, “the more things are compromised”.
The same declare, “It depends on the person you ask. That’s what we’re still understanding. If you ask our CEO and our line producer, they want more time for production. Our post-production supervisor takes more time for post-production. So there will be a great discussion. How long will everyone have? The point is that the shorter the production, the shorter the post-production, the more things get compromised ”.
Then they continue, “It’s all about finding a balance: ‘Okay, how willing are we to compromise to get the series out sooner? Is it more important to give everyone the time they need to do things right, without being lenient? ”. I’m sure we’ll understand what the limit is, but my thought is that I’ve never been super worried ”.
Finally they add, “Due to the COVID emergency, there was a two and a half year break between three and four, and then it turned into a three year break. I’ve never been as worried as others, just because we’re ’90s kids and I grew up waiting at least a couple of years for movie sequels. If not more. We want it to be as fast as possible, but also as good as possible. Ross and I will always prioritize quality. After all, I think it’s better that it’s good than it comes out quickly ”.
While Duffer makes it clear that there is still a lot of programming work to be done before they can announce an official release date for Stranger Things Season 5, it’s clear they are committed to delivering a final season that doesn’t compromise on quality. .
As he explains, the more everyone involved in production has to scramble to get things done, the more room there is for errors, oversights, and there simply isn’t enough time for general tuning.
Although Duffer explains that he never cared about the timing they had for season four, a recent report states that VFX footage was still being finalized hours before the final episodes were released. showing how important every moment is.
As season four ended on a big cliffhanger, fans are undoubtedly eager to get their hands on the next and final installment. Despite this, however, the Duffer brothers are clearly intent on making sure they have enough time to make the right Stranger Things ending.
With a writers ‘room meeting next month and Harbor saying he hopes to start filming next year, it looks likely that Stranger Things’ fifth season will arrive on Netflix in late 2024, or potentially even early 2025.
