The Return of the Lord of the Rings

Who knows what Tolkien would say today if he knew his Lord of the Rings has become one of the most popular franchises ever. The official trilogy has stocked up on statuettes, followed by three films on The Hobbit. Now is the time for seriality. From 2 September on Amazon Prime Video will be available The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Eight episodes, one a week, on a mind-boggling budget. It will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings. There will be a dark evil to defeat, there will still be the evil Sauron, and the battle will take place between the Misty Mountains, the elven capital of Lindon nestled in the forest, the island of the glittering kingdom of Númenor and many other places on the map. Will there be a trip? Perhaps.

Among the most important characters is the elf Galadriel, who for Peter Jackson was a cold queen played by Cate Blanchett. Here she looks like a warrior and she has the face of Morfydd Clark. “We feel a huge responsibility to be part of this world. Some heroes the public has already met, others will soon know them. We focused on the imagination, expanding the universe of books. I trained hard to be Galadriel. She is very physical, every day I tried to go beyond my limits. However, my favorite movie of the saga is The two Towersthe battle in Helm’s Deep is incredible, ”explains Clark.

There will also be Elrond, who most remember as the lord of Rivendell with the determination of Hugo Weaving. Here is Robert Aramayo: “What has always struck me about Tolkien is that he never gives up hope in the hardest moments. In The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power we start from a period of peace, of stillness, to then immerse ourselves in fear ”. Benjamin Walker, or the powerful Gil-galad, follows the meaning of the epic: “The Lord of the Rings represents the eternal battle between good and evil. She prompts us to ask ourselves what we would be willing to do out of love, to receive a little kindness. And this violence never stopped. Hence Tolkien’s incredible modernity. We must remain vigilant, the price of freedom is to keep our eyes open and never let our guard down. I first received Tolkien’s books from my older brother. I was a boy, for me it meant a transition to adulthood. There is a connection linked to the family ”.

We will also meet Isildur, here Maxim Baldry: “At the start he is a young sailor from Númenor, then he will make his journey, discovering strength and courage”. Markella Kavenagh is Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot: “She will be a very special character, with a layered past. She is very attentive to her surroundings, she establishes strong bonds. You will see that the fusion with nature is central, all this could not exist without the environment in which she is immersed. For me it is a tragically epic feature ”.

Among the directors of the series is Juan Antonio Bayona, who directed the first two episodes: “The most interesting part was uniting different cultures, working on the harmony between apparently distant languages. The biggest fear was the confrontation with a universe already told. But we created a fresh, original key, introducing new paladins and developing others. The watchword was innovation. The adventure takes up some key elements, such as the strength of the details, the immense power of very small objects. But then he follows his own path, there will be many surprises ”.
