Astrology and LGBT: I have the rainbow in neptune

Why is astrology so popular in the LGBTQIA+ community? Attempt to explain.

As an integral part of profiles on dating sites, proudly displayed on social networks, on t-shirts, posters, jewelry, tattoos…, astrology is everywhere. In vogue during the new age movement in the 1960s, the practice had died out slightly, but it has been making a strong comeback in recent years. According to an Ifop poll published in December 2020, nearly 70% of 18-24 year olds believe in parasciences, including astrology. Surprisingly, it is in the young queer community that the latter seems to prosper the most. Surprising, because this practice has something very reactive, as Serge Bret-Morel saysa former astrologer who today fights against these beliefs: “Astrology makes it possible to draw ideological portraits […] it’s a way to lock people up unintentionally. » The notion of gender is also still well anchored there, with the planet Venus seen as feminine; Mars, as masculine… In fact, certain specialized sites explain for example that one can determine that a woman is lesbian according to “from the power of his Mars”and then, anyway, “women who call themselves homosexual very often confuse love and friendship”. The pro-astrology LGBTQIA+ community so plead for a “queer astrology”who “attaches[rait] to dismantle stable conceptions of sex, gender and sexuality.. But why did she embark on this esoteric practice that puts everyone in boxes?

There are three reasons for this phenomenon. The first is inherent in the entire so-called “millennial” generation (those born between the early 1980s and the end of the 1990s) and “gen Z” (those born after 1997): estrangement from religion. If some young people are indeed more and more bigots, others reject it completely. And since nature abhors a vacuum, if you don’t believe in a god, you have to believe in something, all the same! It will therefore be the stars. As for the LGBTQIA+ community, in addition to this lack of interest in religion, it is especially important to point out the fact that it is religion, all monotheisms combined, that does not want it in its ranks.
