BM ON THE ROADS OF EUROPE / ABA LIGA: THE ETERNAL RIVALS WIN. THE BUDUCNOST CHECKS WITH THE LAST BREATH

Welcome to this new weekly ABA Liga column about the seventh round of the league. A round that gave joy to Partizan, Red Star and Buducnost, with the last two recovering from the defeat two weeks ago.

FMP BEOGRAD – MZT SKPOPJE AERODROM 101 – 97

Very close match in Belgrade between FMP and MZT, which ends with a +4 for the hosts. We start strong and already at the end of the first half the result is 55 to 53, but in the third quarter the FMP puts the accelerator on and closes at +13. In the fourth quarter, everything is reversed with a thriller ending, but the FMP wins somehow, thus confirming its second place behind Partizan and ahead of Red Star (with one game left). Third consecutive defeat for MZT and penultimate place. Worth noting are the 19 points of Paulius Valinskas (FMP) and the 18 of Strahinja Micovic (MZT).

KK SC DERBY – KK BORAC MOZZART 93 – 84

Nice game between Derby and Borac, with the Montenegrins having been ahead throughout the game. Very balanced first three quarters in which it seemed that Borac could overtake, in the last quarter, however, Derby runs the risk of being overtaken several times, but manages to control the advantage, bringing home their third victory in the championship and hooking up the ninth place. On the other hand, Borac is increasingly in crisis with the seventh defeat in as many outings. Of note are the 21 points of Loren Jackson (Derby) and 17 of Hunter Hale (Borac).

KK CRVENA ZVEZDA MTS – KK CIBONA 92 – 53

Winning debut in the ABA Liga for Dusko Ivanovic, who had a non-irresistible opponent in front of him. Red Star enters the field concentrated, reaching +12 at the end of the 20′. In the second half, however, the red and white put the accelerator and conceding only 15 points to their opponents. Victory that brings morale and confidence in the group, which seems to follow coach Ivanovic’s orders to the letter. Fourth defeat for Cibona, brings them back to tenth place. One of the craziest matches this ABA Liga season with the Montenegrins taking it home with a masterful last minute. Buducnost starting badly and constantly remaining 10 points behind. In the last half Zadar drops, Buducnost takes advantage of it and decreases the disadvantage, reaching -7 in the last minute. The Montenegrins exploit an unfortunate Zadar who throws everything into the air, scoring 8 points in 43 seconds. VOLI wins 104 to 103, which leads them to their fourth victory in this championship, overtaking Zadar, who relegate to fifth place. Surprising defeat of Mornar at home against Mega, who administers the whole game from the beginning.
