Euro U17 3×3: female champions, male bronze

In Athens, France shone at Euro U17 3×3. The women were crowned European champions for the first time while their male counterparts won a fine bronze medal. Encouraging for the future.

It’s a small bright spot in the sky of French basketball. Despite a very sad evening for Vincent Collet and the Blues at the EuroBasket, France shone on the Old Continent. Yes, yes, you read that right! France leaves the Euro 3×3 U17 with two medals.

Lou Bobs still MVP!

After the world title of the French U18s, the women’s U17s climbed to the top step of the podium at the FIBA Europe Cup 3×3 in Athens. Les Bleues, led by a great Lou Bobst and future MVP of the tournament, beat La Roja in the final. Renamed the “Queen of Blind Passes” by Fiba, the MVP of the Coupe de France U18 with the USO Mondeville allowed France to win its first title in this competition. Winning it on the wire (13-12) and facing the reigning European champions necessarily has a special flavor.

Their male counterparts did not go far from bringing down the Germans, now triple reigning European champions. Félix De Almeida and his gang badly negotiated the money time against Mannschaft and lost 21-16. Fortunately, the Blueberries recovered well to defeat Israel (21-14) in the small final. The tricolor summer of the young French 5×5 teams leaves something to be desired but that of the 3×3 selections is simply radiant. Great promises for the future…
