Guillaume Dupin and Lijkele De Haan have joined forces to set up a joint anaerobic digestion project on rue du Grand Vey in Saint-Clément to recover slurry, manure and plants from their farms. Thursday, October 13, 2022, they presented their project and heard the concerns of the inhabitants, trying to reassure them. “We want to be autonomous in our structures, but we don’t want this to be done to the detriment of the activities we already carry out. This is why we want a unit on a human scale that we can manage without having to look for material outside. We chose the site on the Lijkele farm, because that is where there is the most material. We won’t have to transfer materials,” explains Guillaume Dupin.

Making gas is an extension of our activity.

Accident, pollution and danger

Their project, which corresponds to 30 tons per day, does not require a public inquiry. A building permit has been filed with the town hall. The inhabitants were able to talk about their worriesparticularly related toimplantation. “You are 200 meters from the first house, we fear an explosion. You are trained to control, but in fact, there is no longer any supervision and we know, with hindsight, that after 15 or even 20 years, there is a risk of an accident”, remarks a resident who adds: “Furthermore, the D200 has just been classified as a cycle route. Lots of families go there, tractors sometimes go by at enormous speed, it’s winding and it’s very dangerous. In terms of the transport of plants and the increase in the circulation of agricultural machinery, this also worries me. »

Residents worry about profitability and a later need for both farmers to expand. “An expansion would require a public inquiry and work, which we do not want since we want to stay in a sized project”, they answer. “What challenges us is that in the description of your company, we talk about the purchase of inputs. If you use only your animal waste, the yield will be more than nil. For proper operation, a mixture of effluents from livestock and corn cultivation is needed. »

The fields should not turn into cornfields and there should be no more pasture for the cows’ milk.

The issue of groundwater pollution was also addressed. Finally, a connection of approximately 3 km of network at the level of the dairy will have to be created and raises questions in terms of disturbances during the works.

The collective will meet again to reflect on the follow-up “It must be made clear that this is not a personal attack against the two farmers, it is good in relation to the project”, indicates the collective.
