The eternal beauty and mystery of the twins was celebrated by Alessandro Michele in the latest fashion show of Gucci, staged today during the Milan Fashion week. To present the Spring Summer 2023 collections, the designer wanted to explore a theme very dear to him, that of double. As explained in the presentation release of the show, he had two mothers, Eralda and her twin sister Giuliana. This has always exerted a great fascination on him, intrigued and captivated by this connection between the two, which made them almost a single person while maintaining two distinct identities. Therefore, for him the maternal figure has been substantially doubled, a certainly extraordinary factor that has led him to deepen over time, through his creative research, precisely the question of dualism.
The Milan fashion show brought the collection to the stage Gucci Twinsburg and it could only be told if not by pairs of twins: arrived separated, they are gradually united walking on the catwalk hand in hand, dressed, made up and combed in the same way. Also the manicure has told the duality through contrasting colors: opposites create complete, perfect harmony. On the other hand, no matter how similar twins are, they will never be identical and there is no better way to enhance these differences than to choose identical looks. Even with regard to beauty, therefore, the same characteristics have been maintained on the face, hair and nails. Incredibly, indeed, deliberately, the similarities only underscored the differences and the same make-up was very different on two faces only apparently identical.
Same and different, the double theme in the Gucci fashion show
This structured show with its multiple meanings represents a stage in the extremely coherent path of Michele, whom he has always loved mix and confuse the waters just by playing with the double, in particular the masculine and the feminine: the result is never to create uniformity, but to enhance the uniqueness of each person beyond gender to the maximum. A goal achieved again this time, where the same has never been so different. But unlike literature where masterpieces like The Strange Case of Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde they have interpreted duplicity as a contrast between good and evil, here there is no right or wrong, there are only the many facets of the human being and how they can be expressed. A freedom of storytelling that also passes through an almost lunar makeup, glamorous hairstyles and razor-sharp nails, which intertwine to become one again.
