The Polestar 2 is a car with a refined design, albeit typically minimalist, as Scandinavia teaches, and while remaining close to “mom Volvo”, from which it broke away a few years ago, in addition to safety, it aims at a high-performance, very fun driving. and also quite configurable. The seats and interior are great, comfortable and sturdy, the software works well and has all the features Google nativ servicesthe. The only drawback today could be the maximum DC charging at 150 kW, but if you are looking for a car that is safe, powerful and with space for the whole family, then you should consider it.

Ever since I first mentioned it, the Polestar 2 has convinced me in its design. Like the much rarer Polestar 1, this is also a model that comes from a Volvo concept, called Volvo Concept 40.2, and I’m glad the stock model hasn’t changed much. The platform is also shared with Volvo, that is the CMA on which the Volvo XC40 (here the electric test), Volvo C40 Recharge and Lynk & Co 01 (here the test) are built.

The front is identical to that of the prototype, with the large grill but not too big, wide and, in the case of the Polestar 2 Performance, with a very pleasant matte black cubic texture. Obviously, we note the absence of the Volvo logo, replaced by the North Star on the hood. They stand out the Mjöllnir headlights, with Thor’s hammermore squared than the 1 and the models of the parent company.

Behind, the headlights were elongated and connected in the center, of scenographic impact both during the day and in the evening. I also appreciate that the door handles are not flush with the body, but protruding, a solution that I find much more practical.

On the Performance there are aesthetic details that underline its more performing equipment, such as the larger 20-inch wheels with a very elaborate design, but above all the Brembo yellow-ocher brake caliperstaken inside by the seat belts.

I fell in love with the interior

As far as the solution of the vertical tablet leaning don’t drive me crazy, for the rest I liked the interior a lot. A build quality that most competitors lack, and it proves it the variety of materials used. Let’s start with the most common, the light gray fabric that is pleasant to touch and see, which makes a excellent contrast with the yellow-ocher belt already mentioned, which is also found on the door panels.

There is plenty of room for people and luggage, and the interior is bright enough, thanks to the panoramic roof, and despite the fact that the rear window is quite small.

The proof of autonomy

With two electric motors and all-wheel drive, it goes without saying that the Polestar 2 Performance is a pretty snappy car: accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.4 seconds, e despite the weight of 2.1 tons with the two motors and the larger 78 kWh battery, which here promise 476 km of autonomy.

The basic power is 408 CVbut as mentioned by updating it, the Performance Pack brings it to over 460. What makes it fun, however, is the possibility of customizing its set-up, giving it different souls based on use.

Driving it through the streets of Aalborgthe Danish city where I am, in these days, I have lightened the steering wheel and left the intensity of the One Pedal Drivemaximizing comfort and optimizing consumption: with these settings I can easily stay on 16 kWh every 100 km, interesting values ​​for the type of car.

Leaving the city, on extra-urban routes, it is possible to reduce or reset the One Pedal Drive, stiffen the steering wheel and the suspension (which are always quite rigid), and deactivate the ESC for a little more panache.

A drive that I would not call sporty, but that still allows you to have a little fun and this is, in my opinion, where the added value of the Polestar 2 Performance lies compared to more conventional electric cars. Clear that the autonomy, with this use, drops a lot.

However, the comfort of the seats is always guaranteed, and however powerful it makes the Polestar 2 a car for medium-long and relaxing journeys, with moments of intensity to stretch a little. The sports car at home, for price and performance, always remains the 1. And whoever wants to focus on this aspect, then should focus on the single motor with the same battery pack: in this case the promised range is 550 km, giving up some performance.

Fast charging but not super fast

We come to the point that I liked the least: charging. In alternating current the Polestar 2 Performance charge to maximum 150 kW. Not bad: it allows you to recover 80% in half an hour. But perhaps a system a 800 Voltwith its significantly shorter charging times, it would have increased its soul as a zero-emission traveler.
