Youssouf Fofana, after the victory of the Blues against Austria: “I will play my card”

“How did you feel for your first selection?
Good. As I said in the hallway, I felt a bit at home, since I don’t live very far. Suddenly, it felt good to return to the Paris region, in a beautiful stadium. I was also comfortable in the sense that my partners were able to help me in my positioning, with the ball. It could only go well.

“I am proud that they are proud of me”

Youssouf Fofana, talking about his family

How do you judge your first?
Overall pretty good. Afterwards, I think that in the zone of truth, there are two or three balls where I can be much fairer and we might have deserved to score a goal from those passes. Afterwards, I’m a bit demanding of myself, so I’ll never tell you that I had a good match. (smile).

At halftime, at 0-0, was there a little fear in the locker room?
Between players, we don’t talk to each other, we know that we are good in the match, that they have no situations. We know that if we continue to push like that, putting in a lot more intensity, it will come back. The coach remained positive in his advice, in his words. He remobilized us, in quotes, he put a little more boost and it was seen immediately in the second half.

What were the instructions for you in this system?
There was no real advice, the coach told us that we had already evolved together (with Tchouaméni) and that he was waiting for this double pivot, a medium which rises and the other which remains in balance. We did it a lot of times, Aurélien and I, so it was natural and he understood it quickly.

Playing next to Tchouaméni and in front of Badiashile, with whom you played or are playing in Monaco, did that help you not to doubt?
Yes, for sure, it helped me a little more. Afterwards, in these kinds of events, we won’t always have our friends on the side, we will have to make allowances.

How do you see this prospect of the World Cup?
I can already see Sunday’s (smile). We will have to win in Copenhagen and we will see what happens next.

Was winning in front of your family and friends the first dream for you?
Dreamed yes, finally whether it is in front of my family or not, we had to win this match. Afterwards, in front of my family, it’s pride, I show them what I can do on the pitch because they don’t always have the opportunity to see me in the stands because it’s a bit far. I am proud that they are proud of me.

Compared to the World Cup, it’s not stupid to think about it, there is perhaps a card to play?
It’s not stupid at all, I know what you want me to say. I will play my card but to be called at the next truce. If it’s a World Cup, it’s a World Cup, if it’s friendlies or qualifying matches, it will be friendlies or qualifying matches, but I’m going to play my card to try to come back as a team France.

Didier Deschamps say a word to you about your performance?
Not necessarily on my performance, but on the fact that I did 90 minutes for my first selection. Whether it’s the coach or the players who have a little more selection, everyone congratulated me. »
